glaive - a bit of a mad one (2024)

a bit of a mad one, as the title entails, tells glaive’s maddest truths since turning eighteen; reflecting on his newfound love, his turn to religion, and mental health struggles. The follow-up to his personal diary known as i care so much that i dont care at all serves as glaive’s welcome project to 2024. Recorded in Alaska, a bit of a mad one fills all the untold gaps in glaive’s life from turning seventeen, taking on different genres and lyrical themes with every track.

The project was first mentioned on September 24, 2023, where glaive took to 𝕏 (Twitter) to share the idea of a small EP by the end of the year. At the time, no details related to the final project were shared; however, he posted on October 11 claiming he was “on one with the new music” despite not starting, hinting that the music he’d previewed leading up to the aforementioned tweets were not to see release on the project.

Throughout November, glaive had gone on and finished the European leg of his i care so much that i dont care at all tour, alongside a vacation to Alaska that he had returned from—leading to a snippet of “Tijuana Freestyle” and his shaved head. With his shaved head, glaive posted an Instagram Story censored list of files for the EP.

During the tour, glaive performed two unreleased songs, “God Is Dead” in Glasgow, and “even when the sun is dead” in Manchester—with a tracklist preview on 𝕏 (Twitter) earlier that day. On the twentieth, glaive would take to Twitter to briefly update fans on the project, claiming it would all be finished after tour.

On November 25, glaive would announce to his private Twitter a flight to Mexico for the next day, where he was set to record the music videos. And, in addition to the previewed tracklist, glaive confirmed that the music was done, hinting further that the project would release before the new year.

On November 27, glaive previewed one of the upcoming songs, “Living Proof (That It Hurts).” A more noteworthy event of the stream, he claimed the EP is set to release on January 1, 2024, somewhat sticking to the “end of year” project idea he first had, although claiming it was not set in stone.

Following numerous teasers throughout November and December 2023, as well as January 2024, glaive would announce “huh” as the EP’s first single—to be released on January 26—releasing with a music video. The announcement was done through social medias on January 19, a day before his birthday. On the release day of “huh,” glaive confirmed “even when the sun is dead,” alongside its music video, would release on February 2, a week after the lead.

On February 2, glaive would first tease a music video for “i don’t really feel it anymore,” hinting that the sample has been cleared. He posted a snippet of the video on February 7. “i don’t really feel it anymore” would then be released on February 16, 2024, serving as the EP’s third single.

On February 5, glaive had taken to a Twitch livestream to discuss the EP’s release. He confirmed that a single was set to release on February 16—breaking the implied weekly pattern—and claimed a bit of a mad one would release in full the week after. Then on February 14, during Valentine’s Day, glaive would take to social media to reveal the EP’s cover art and tracklist, consisting of four new tracks, alongside the three previously mentioned singles.
