King Of The Mischievous South, Vol. 2 is the sixth studio album from Denzel Curry, serving as a sequel to his 2012 mixtape, King of the Mischievous South, Vol. 1 (Underground Tape 1996).
This project was first mentioned in an interview with Miami News, and introduced rather as a sequel to Curry’s 2020 mixtape 13LOOD 1N + 13LOOD OUT MIXX. Both previous mixtapes have a major focus on collaboration and southern hip-hop and horrorcore elements which carry their way onto King Of The Mischevious South Vol. 2. The album sees narration from Southern hip-hop legend, Kingpin Skinny Pimp.
In an official press release, this was said about the album:
[King Of The Mischevious South Vol. 2] pays homage to the great musical heritages of the South — from Memphis to Houston and Curry’s own South Florida”
The first single would be released in the midst of run of new singles from Curry on September 14, 2023 in SKED featuring frequent collaborators and tour-mates, Kenny Mason and Charlie Heat.
Denzel started taking to social media leading into June 2024 to promote the album, teasing features, and inviting a large cast of the album’s collaborators to preview songs on On The Radar Radio such as “HOT ONE” and “ULTRA SHXT.”
“HOT ONE” would become the second single and release on June 4, 2024 with guest verses from A$AP Ferg and TiaCorine.
